Improving economies and booming middle-class populations in emerging countries such as India, China, and Brazil are putting a record number of new cars on the world’s roads, and keeping auto appearance product formulators busy helping them continue to look and feel new.
“A new car is big investment no matter where you live, so aesthetic maintenance is extremely important,” said Michael O’Callaghan, global marketing manager for Dow Corning’s XIAMETER® brand. “A variety of XIAMETER brand Silicone strainers are used in products that can help deliver characteristics such as gloss, water repellency, and more to ensure the insides and outsides of cars look and feel better longer.”

Global auto sales are expected to increase six percent in 2011 to a record 76.5 million vehicles, on the way to surpassing 100 million new vehicle sales in 2015, according to automotive industry analyst J.D. Power and Associates. Key to that growth will be emerging countries, which accounted for more than half of global sales for the first time in 2010.

XIAMETER brand emulsions are featured in the following prototype formulations : Spray and wipe car polish, multi-surface medium shine dressing, tire medium-shine dressing, Vinyl protectant, dry washer.

“Different climates require different formulations to withstand blazing sun, harsh rain and snow, humidity or dryness, and even the dust and dirt of rural or unpaved roads,” said O’Callaghan. “With the XIAMETER brand, we provide formulators with the standard silicone emulsions they need without the cost or complexity of unnecessary customization.”
